WhiteWater Achieves ISO 14001 Certification, Releases First Impact Report

WhiteWater is proud to announce that we have achieved ISO 14001 certification in November 2024—the only supplier in our product categories that actively has it. On this occasion, we have also released our first-ever impact report, detailing our environmental, social, supply chain, and governance activities. Through both the certification and the report, we want to emphasize that “how” we do business is just as important as what we make.

Why ISO 14001 and What Is the Scope?

ISO 14001 is a global standard that provides a robust framework for managing and improving environmental performance. This certification means that we are taking proactive steps to reduce our environmental footprint, addressing key areas like resource usage, waste management, and operational efficiency. We want to ensure that while we bring joy and excitement to our clients and their guests, we also take care of the environment we all share.

“Over the last four years, our teams have made significant steps to put in place metrics and actions outlined in this report,” said Una de Boer, Chief Marketing Officer at WhiteWater, who is also our sustainability executive sponsor. “This internationally recognized certification aligns well with our continuous improvement methodologies and has helped us document our process for transparency and evolution.”

Our current certification scope covers the management of environmental risks associated with product development and design (water slides, interactive water play, and water rides), marketing, sales, manufacturing, logistics, installation, and servicing for the amusement parks and attractions industry and pertains to activities originating from our head office.

In the coming years, we want to expand our ISO 14001 certification scope to include more parts of our business as well as our overseas offices.

Approaching Our Work Responsibly: WhiteWater’s First Impact Report

Our first-ever Impact Report demonstrates our commitment to managing our business ethically and sustainably. It covers four key areas:

  • Environment, including our ISO 14001 certification, waste management, FRP end of life research, and industry engagement
  • Supply chain management, including responsible sourcing and vendor compliance
  • Social responsibility, including human resources, charitable activities, and DEIB initiatives
  • Governance, including our values, corporate structure, risk management, and we are set up for longevity

This document is meant to be a progress report as we continually strive for excellence in everything we do. We hope this report shows the lengths we go to ensure that the fun we create with our products should not be damaging in any way.

Looking Ahead—Building a Sustainable Future Together

A more granular carbon assessment is currently underway and is expected to be completed in 2025. Alongside this, a certified measurement system is being developed to align with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol methodology. Refinements to our Sustainability Scorecard targets have also been made, with net zero now specifically defined as net-zero carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. Our updated milestone goals include:

  • Net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2030
  • Net-zero emissions for Scope 3 upstream by 2040
  • Net-zero emissions for Scope 3 downstream by 2045
